Your Numicon Workshop Leader - David Lyttle
David joined the team at the International School of Düsseldorf (ISD) in 2012 as a core classroom teacher. In 2014 he was appointed as a specialist Support for Learning Teacher with a focus on elementary school Mathematics. As part of this role, he developed a successful customised math intervention program using Numicon resources, which can cater for students with needs in Grades 3 to 7. An e-book of this intervention has been commissioned and will be published in early 2018. He has also been instrumental in the training and utilization of Numicon at ISD as a classroom resource and as an enrichment tool and has identified how it can complement the constructivist concrete-pictorial-abstract approach to mathematics adopted by ISD.
His current role at ISD is to model lessons and strategies, that will assist teachers in delivering best pedagogical practice. In addition, he researches websites, materials, activities and learning experiences to enhance all aspects of the math program. Finally, David observes, screens, and diagnoses students to identify next steps in learning.
David is a strong advocate for Numicon. He appreciates the overall versatility and utility of Numicon to complement any math program in a multitude of mathematical domains. He has run several successful Numicon workshops and seminars at ISD, teacher led conferences, and is an experienced inset Professional Development trainer. He has received strong positive feedback from teachers in attendance. One teacher comments, the workshop “opened me up a new world of possibilities in Elementary Maths, thank you!”
David is a both a primary school trained teacher and has a Masters in Inclusion Educatio. He has a strong pedagogical knowledge regarding mathematical difficulties, prevention and intervention, as well as ways to support gifted and talented students. He became a certified Numicon Affiliated Trainer in August 2015.
David can customize his support to cater for your school’s specific needs, and is happy to offer inset workshops, seminars, on-going consultancy, modelled lessons and classroom observations. For more information click here.
